Well it's here again, Halloween, and whilst some people think it's nothing more than a rip off others indulge in the experience whole heartedly.
Scott has a party to go to, round his girlfriends aunty. So after taking the younger ones round the streets, they will all be safe indoors not far from where we live.....Mart who is almost 17 now, has asked can he have a few mates round for the evening to have a few beers and hotdogs etc. We've agreed, but they are going to set up the gazebo on the patio and stay out there, setting up a tent to sleep in . This is the first time we've let him do anything like this and he's been warned to keep it sensible and keep the noise down. Will let you know how it goes tomorrow! lmao
I've got stocks of goodies in, to give to the door knockers this evening, I love seeing all the little kids dressed up trying their best to look scary at my door. I bought a ceramic pumpkin last year to go on the windowsill, that has a tea light in it, so wont have to mess about with cutting a fresh one up. I also have a cardboard skeleton I put up on my front door. Gawd I'm such a big kid! lmaoo
Will you be doing anything special tonight? _________________ If you see someone without a smile.....give them yours |

i hate halloween, and i've never let mine go trick or treating. i feel bad for them, and it makes me feel as if i'm depriving them, but i just can't stand the constant door knockers, especially the older ones who don't even bother getting dressed up for it. so tonight, i lock the door and don#'t answer it, book a film, open a tin of celebrations and get pizza for tea. _________________ Housework is a complete waste of time. I'm the same with the lads that come to the door just pulling their hoodies up, I wont give them anything unless they have made and effort. But to be honest the last two years we haven't had any of those thankfully. Just lots of little kids that make a huge effort. Mind you, your night in sounds fun too so you are hardly depriving them!
In our local paper they have printed a Halloween notice that says, no trick or treaters please, enjoy your Halloween. You can cut it out and stick it on your door....I think thats a great idea, especially for the eldery or vulnerable in the community that don't like to answer their door at night. We are lucky in one way that we don't like in a place that have nasty kids that are abusive or throw eggs, I'm sure in other cities it's not as nice as experience as in ours. _________________ If you see someone without a smile.....give them yours |

To me, Halloween was always an american thing and I used to get a bit angry when thinking..."why do we aussies always have to follow what the americans do?"
And when kids would come knocking at my door I used to tell them sorry but I am an aussie not a yank (no offence to any americans here)
This year though, although I had actually forgotten about it. I had 3 little girls and a mum knock on my door. I happened to have some bite size chocolate bars in a dish so I gave them 2 each...I thought to myself, why not just go with the flow LOL.
I only had the one knock but I had more chocolates if any other had knocked. It's exciting for the kids, just like christmas I suppose, as long as they don't get carried away and get frightened with all this ghoul stuff I spose it's harmless...and as long as they have an adult with them when they go door-knocking.
PS.
I just had an email from my sister-in-law in Queensland with some photos of her and my young nephews dressed up for halloween at cub scouts. The oldest boy looks a bit like Harry Potter without the glasses LOL and my SIL makes a great witch! _________________ We're the pride of South Australia...we're the mighty ADELAIDE CROWS..... |

Oh bless them! Bet they looked good . So far in the last hour I've had about 20 knockers so far, all dressed up properly, all very polite and enjoying it and all supervised by an adult or two. I love it all _________________ If you see someone without a smile.....give them yours |

We don't have bonfire night here anymore....we used to when we first arrived but they stopped it because it being almost summer and the bushfire threats of it.
We have controlled firework displays occasionally such as Australia Day, 26th January...we have shows like "Skyshow" which is organised by an Adelaide radio station but you have to go into the city for it and the traffic and parking is a real hassle so we don't bother...it's done very well though because the fireworks explode to the beats of the music they play.
Hubby just told me it's called "Pyrotechnics" sounds like a name of an arson company LOL _________________ We're the pride of South Australia...we're the mighty ADELAIDE CROWS..... |

lmao so it does!
Well each year the kids costumes are getting better and better. A lot came in ready made outfits, but even the ones who'd made their own costumes had done a great job! I didn't have one hoody donning yob all night. The street was bustling with children, and adults, even the parents had dressed up in some cases. I loved it when the younger children went BOOO as I opened my door, and I pretended to be scared etc lol...my kids said it's because I'm a big kid myself! _________________ If you see someone without a smile.....give them yours |

i usually ignore the door from 31st october til after christmas (bloody carol singers!!) unless i know someone's popping over.
well, my first trick or treater this year was my 18ish month old nephew, dressed up as a pumpkin!! sure some people may say that's cruel to dress a kid up that young, but it looked very warm & i felt a little envious!! being the kind uncle that i am, i sorted out all the soft Roses chocolates i could find, mummy wouldn't let him have many though as would spoil tea time. |

| well as you know I haven't had any kids for Halloween for years because of our location. Dark woods etc - scary but lo and behold 3 kids about 10 years old appeared at the door last night and I had nothing to give them at all. So although I never did like giving money to them in years gone past my hubby took sympathy on them and gave them a pound each for bravery I think |
