Remembrance Day – also known as Poppy Day, Armistice Day or Veterans Day – is a day to commemorate the sacrifices of members of the armed forces and of civilians in times of war, specifically since the First World War.
It is observed on 11 November to recall the end of World War I on that date in 1918. (Major hostilities of World War I were formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918 with the German signing of the Armistice.) The day was specifically dedicated by King George V, on 7 November 1919, to the observance of members of the armed forces who were killed during war; this was possibly done upon the suggestion of Edward George Honey to Wellesley Tudor Pole, who established two ceremonial periods of remembrance based on events in 1917.
So lets all remember those who died for our freedom today. Does your place of work have a minutes silence? I'm shocked that I havent actually seen one poppy seller this year , are there less in your town? _________________ If you see someone without a smile.....give them yours |

It's a shame that the younger generation don't seem to respect, or even know about Rememberance Day.
I read somewhere that the Arabs taught their kids that the war was all a hoax and that the holocaust never really happened.
I never moved from my house yesterday morning so I completely forgot about it all until I got in my car to go to work....shame on me I know!
Considering that 11/11 is also my grandson's birthday - he was 7 yesterday. _________________ We're the pride of South Australia...we're the mighty ADELAIDE CROWS..... |

| What surprised me the other day was the amount of people I saw in the supermarket who were'n't wearing one. Quite a few of the shops were selling poppies and I saw that one big store had a display and poppies for sale in the front foyer |

This is the first year I've not worn one, for lack of seeing them. Tescos always have them being sold outside their doors, but I didn't see them last week, and not seen them anywhere where I've been, which hasn't been far. _________________ If you see someone without a smile.....give them yours |
