Lol. There's a little bit of a back story to it. They supposedly tripped over death's scythe and broke it when they were doing an episode of "The Chunky Show", which is their webshow in the film, when they were doing a segment called messing with death. That's why in the magic episode they had the recording thing. But yeah, I have to agree it is really random.
